Some of the Oscars 2023 winners
Some of the Oscars 2023 winners. Did you watch the ceremony?
Everything Everywhere All at Once, the sci-fi comedy won seven Oscars including:
- Best Picture
- Best Director
- Best Original Screenplay
- Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh. This movie explored the concept of multiverse and identity with humour and heart. Yeoh was amazing as Evelyn, a Chinese-American woman who discovers she can access parallel realities and has to save the world from a cosmic threat. She totally deserved her first Oscar and I'm glad she got it.
All Quiet on the Western Front, the German remake of the classic war film based on the novel by Erich Maria Remarque. This movie won four Oscars:
- Best International Feature Film
- Best Cinematography
- Best Production Design
- Best Original Score
Some other highlights of the night were:
- Brendan Fraser winning Best Actor for his role as a morbidly obese recluse in The Whale.
- Jamie Lee Curtis winning Best Supporting Actress for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once,
- Ke Huy Quan winning Best Supporting Actor for his role as Evelyn's husband in Everything Everywhere All at Once,
- Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio winning Best Animated Feature Film for its dark and whimsical retelling of the classic fairy tale.
- Navalny winning Best Documentary
There were also some surprises and snubs that I didn't agree with. For example, I was shocked that The Banshees of Inisherin didn't win anything despite being nominated for six Oscars.
